Demoting an NT server and removing it completely.

Hi there,

Our domain is mainly active directory. We've got 2 other domains which are
NT. I want to now get rid of the one of the NT domains.

All user accounts are no longer in use and the server is no longer used at
all. It is a PDC only with no BDC.

I would post this on the NT message board but it is never very buy and
figured this is the correct area really.

Please can someone tell me (or point me in the direction) of the correct
steps for demoting the server and getting rid of the server and domain in
the cleanest possible way?

Thanks in advance.

If these are entirely separate/unrelated domains (no trusts, right?), and
you don't need them at all anymore, I'd imagine you could merely shut off
the server and nobody using AD would notice at all. You can't demote an NT
PDC down to a standalone or member server - but it really doesn't sound like
you need to. I'd shut it off & see who notices, and after a bit, just, well,
smash your old hardware with a hammer if you need to get some aggressions
out. :)

It has a one way trust with our AD domains.

Shall i remove the trust first then?

Yes, if nobody is using it.
