Adprep Issue
I want to add a 2003 DC to a remote office to communicate with a SBS 2003 R2
SVR accross a VPN. The goal is for users to login quicker at the remote office. The 2003 Standard SVR is currently at the office with SBS 2003 R2 and has joined the SBS Domain. I want to promote it to a DC and was told to look on CD2 of the R2 set but that is the Exchange CD, so I am using CD1 to access Adprep under /i386. When I run Adprep /forestprep is says "Forest wide information has already been updated. Adprep did not attempt to rerun this operation. How can I get this to run so I will be able to run DCpromo on the new server? I saw someting in another thread about updating the Schema but could not figure out how. Hello rich,
Is the SBS 2003 running as R2 domain or not, check with winver from the run line. If you only will add the 2003 Standard to the SBS domain, it should work if the domain is prepared for R2 or not, because the 2003 Standard is not R2. So did you run dcpromo and get an error, then please post the error message here? for Small Business Server no R2, not sure why but it does not appear to be running R2. Now that would make sense because CD2 is the Exchange CD, and Adprep is on CD1 in the \i386 directory. As I listed previously when I run Adprep the message is: "Forest wide information has already been updated. Adprep did not attempt to rerun this operation." That's what has me confused. Neither server is apparently R2 so I would think compatability would be better. I can not prep the forest so I am not sure what to do. I can find Adprep I just can not successfuly run it. According to Technet the Adprep file is on CD1 for NON-R2 versions of SBS so I have that part right. I am just can not figure out what to do or what patch I am missing. Put that aside for now. Do you have the Windows 2003 R2 TWO CD Set for your plain Windows 2003 Standard R2 server? If yes, then that is the CD#2 that you will find the adprep (v31) necessary to upgrade the Active Directory (forest) schema for WINDOWS 2003 R2 Domain Controllers. Does it make a little more sense now? Show quote > As I listed previously when I run Adprep the message is: "Forest wide > information has already been updated. I would not think I need to extend the schema but when I run DCpromo on the new 2003 Standard Svr it says I need to prepare the forest and domain by running Adprep, which I can not run because the SBS server gives me a message that the forest is already prepared. Any ideas? Rich, this has been answered for you a couple of times in this thread alone.> I would not think I need to extend the schema but when I run DCpromo > on the new 2003 Standard Svr it says I need to prepare the forest and > domain by running Adprep, which I can not run because the SBS server > gives me a message that the forest is already prepared. > > Any ideas? It doesn't matter what winver says on SBS. SBS R2 does *NOT* equal Windows 2003 R2. The schema needs to be upgraded to V31 to accomodate Windows 2003 R2 as Domain Controllers. *NONE* of the SBS 2003 CD's have the V31 Schema updates needed for Windows 2003 R2 Domain Controllers. You *MUST* use the *WINDOWS 2003 R2 CD2* for this Schema update. I don't know how to make it any clearer. It does not say R2 so I do not need the CD's. Show quote "Danny Sanders" wrote: > > The 2003 Standard SVR is currently at the office with SBS 2003 R2 and has > > joined the SBS Domain.
