Hello All -

I have been reviewing the ad structure and have a question or 2....

What is the "Active" component of Active directory? Is it FRS?

This is an annoying question I know it off the wall... But heyh...

I also know that AD is a centralized management of all domain resources, and
that the "Active" part provides access to the directory.

Thank you,

Robert

"Active" in the name is simply branding. There isn't a specific component of the
system that is considered the "active" part. It is like ActiveX and Active
Directory Services Interface which has nothing to with Active Directory for its
naming as it existed prior to AD.

Ahh... So i see that i was over analyzing the situation then...

SO the AD could simply be described as "A centralized repository for all
domain objects".

because a directory is: Storage
a service: provides acces to that data (LDAP).

Right?

Thanks,

Robert
