Hope someone can help me with this question.  Recently, we had two Windows
2000 servers go down.  Both were Domain controllers.  They were replaced with
two new Windows 2003 servers.  I want to load GPMC on the two new servers but
I'm not sure how they are going to affect the GPOs that are currently in
place.  Will loading GPMC do anything to the current GPOs?  Once loaded, will
I have to do any configuration to the current GPOs or will they continue to
work the way they are currently set up?

The GPO will strill work however in order to edit a existing gpo you need to
make you have gpo loaded on every dc. or you get a truncate string error on
the dc that dont have gpmc on it.

Christian,

Is it the fact that the MS GPMC is not loaded on that specific server or is
it due to the following MSKB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842933

I ask because I just started playing with WIN2003 about two weeks ago and
had this error on my Exchange Server.  I have a test lab with, originally,
one WIN2003 Domain Controller, one WIN2003 Member Server running Exchange
Server 2003 and two Windows XP Pro SP2 clients.  I installed the GPMC first
on the two WINXP Pro SP2 clients and then used the GPMC from one of the XP
Pro clients to create a whole slew of GPOs.  I then tried to edit some of
these GPO on the Exchange Server and received this error.  I immediately
thereafter installed SP1 for WIN2003 on the Member Server and then tried to
edit the exact same GPOs and had no problems.

Cary & Christian,

Thanks for replying to my question.  I ended up loading GPMC and it
loaded fine.  I'm sort of new when it comes to playing with GPOs and I was
afraid that if I loaded GPMC, I was going to have to reconfigure the current
GPOs that were already in place.  I just have a lot of reading to do!  Thanks!
