Fresh Install of ADAM SP1 - Can't install without doing an upgradeI have been working with ADAM for a while and am about to install it for another client. I decided to use the SP1 version of the product as this seems to make sense. However, despite the documentation stating that you can install directly from the new binaries, I have been unable to do so with installing the old version first. The steps on the website are a fairly basic and refer to the wrong setup binary (adamsetup.exe rather than adaminstall.exe) so I don't trust it too much. I reviewed the documentation in the ADAM help file and the updated step by step guide. These both assume you are running R2. I have tested this onw Windows 2003 SP1 and on XP and each time I get prompts for the location of certain files and then the install fails. Has anyone been able to successfully install ADAM interactively on Windows 2003 SP1 that can provide some tips as to what I may be doing wrong? Do I need to go the unattended install route? regards, Craig Gilmour I have installed ADAM SP1 on w2k3 sp1 several hundred times.

thanks for the prompt response. I performed the install several times, but the adamsetup.log had the following. It seems to refer to problems accessing the registry (that key is not there). If I install the base build then a upgrade works fine. I can't let you know with the XP error was as I have re-installed too many times. is a new paradigm in ADAM SP1 that I missed. You need to 1.0 install SP2 first which adds the software to the server. 2.0 choose Programs / ADAM / Add New ADAM Instance. I saw the second piece of the documentation, but what was missing in all the install documents is that if you are installing "fresh" that you have to do step 1.0. All the installation docs assumed the software was there and threw me. I had cracked open the self extractig archive and was running ADAMinst.exe and it was having a problem. At least I know for next time. BTW - it may be that I am just a little "dumb", but for people not working with R2, and having knowledge of the pre-SP1 installation paradigm, it might be useful to make this point in the documentation somewhere. i.e. if installing on a fresh Windows (not R2) server, first install SP1, then follow the normal instructions. thanks, Craig Gilmour Show quoteHide quote "Dmitri Gavrilov [MSFT]" wrote: > I have installed ADAM SP1 on w2k3 sp1 several hundred times. > What's the error that you get?
