Cannot install W2003 admin pak on VS 2005 R2 instance

I get an error when trying to install the admin pak for the W2003 CD on my
virtual server instance of:

Product: Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack -- Windows Server
2003 Administration Tools Pack can only be installed on Windows XP
Professional with QFE Q329357 applied, on Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 1 or later, or on computers running Windows Server 2003 operating
systems.

I could't find anything in the KB articles about this.  Is there a
workaround needed for a VS instance?

This was posted under Servers General last month with no response.

What OS are you trying to install it on?

It could be a corrupted source. How are you installing it? Thru a shared
folder from the host or did you copy it to the VS and then ran it?

Yeah I would think corrupted source or trying to run from CD. VS gets hokey
sometimes when trying to do that so I always copy the installs locally.

I agree. I've seen that before. I find it a big PITA.

Thanks guys,

I believe your explaination is valid here.  I will always copy any
applications to install into the VS instance from now on.  Strangely enough,
I tried it from the VS host share, and it worked.

Case closed.
