Sites and ServicesI have several DCs, mostly located at the same building, and are all under
one Site in Sites and Services. Under NTDS Settings, each DC will see a couple of the other DCs automatically; that is, I don't need to manually enter all the other DCs, since some are automatically generated. However, some are NOT automatically generated, and I have to manually enter them. I need to know why this is happening. No two DC auto-generate the same DCs the other's do... it's all mixed up in which DCs each one chooses to see and not see... in other words, I don't see any rhyme or reason to it. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks Each DC is running a service called the Knowledge Consistency Checker or
KCC. When a DC is brought online it begins to learn its surroundings and bridge its communications levels. Over time as things change these bridges can also change. There is no need for each dc to talk to one another in a start pattern and in fact would be way to much unnecessary chatter. Sites create a Bridgehead automatically but this can be overridden manually if you so choose. The bridgehead (InterSite Topology Generator -or- ISTG) from each site handle the communications to other sites and they are then respondsible to relay that info on to other dc's who then in turn can help send it on to others with in the site (If large enough). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224815/en-us -- Show quoteHide quotePaul Bergson MCT, MCSE, MCSA, CNE, CNA, CCA This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
