User logon connection dropped overnight. Is there a default setting with W2k3 that drops user connections overnight?
I have instructed my users to log off before going home instead of simply locking their PCs b/c when they return in the morning, their user connection is dropped. There have been a few exceptions but generally if they log off/on everything is fine. Or, can I force the PC to restore connections when they unlock their PCs? Thanks, Johnny In news:A619B4F7-BCD0-4273-A0E0-7AB9FC8D0F1C@microsoft.com, Johnny Rio <Johnny***@discussions.microsoft.com> stated, which I commented on below: > Is there a default setting with W2k3 that drops user connections No, not by default, but can be configured in a GPO. Maybe there is an unreliable connection causing it? HOw are they connected? Probably more than likely. Since I haven't seen an > as my preferred DNS server as in my other post? All connections are > "in office". ipconfig /all of your DC or of a client, it's guess work, but I'll put money on it. Post them for me here if you can. Also, who is your DHCP server? Your DC or your router? Ace My router is the DHCP server. Instead of obtaining both IPs and DNS
automatically, I left the IP on automatic but specified my DC as my primary DNS server. Logons are fast and connections aren't dropped overnight. Funny how things work when you set them up like they're supposed to be, huh? It worked the other way but wasn't very efficient. Too bad you didn't put money, big money, on it. Thanks again for your help! Thanks again for > your help! Johnny had to dig into a little football here...I'm thinking Pittsburgh may take it with their fired up offense and defense with the way they romped Denver last week, and Denver ain't no slackers. But then again, you never know, Seattle can come out ahead with Shaun Alexander running right up the middle avoiding Troy Polamalu and Larry Foote every other play and gain yardage and TDs. Tough call, but I'm leaning towards Pittsburgh... About your DHCP service on the router, if I may offer a little advise and a suggestion with AD: Use the DC's DHCP server, and not the router, since it offers many more Options, such as 015: domain specific suffix, and 044 & 046: WINS, and the BIGGEST advantage of all, it works seamlessly with Dynamic DNS Updates. Routers can't touch that since it's based on the Windows DNS and DHCP APIs working together. Ace
