Upgrading AD 2003 to AD 2008 In-PlaceHi,
I have a question about Upgrade AD In-Place mode: - I have a DC/AD Windows Server 2003 and my environment has a Exchange Server 2003. I want upgrade my environment to Windows Server 2008 and AD too But I don´t have another hardware to configure the new DC 2008 so I would like to know if I can do a in-place upgrade of my AD 2003 to AD 2008. Thanks for while. Luiz Luiz - this should be fine, as long as you are not running Exchange Server
2003 on the domain controller. Also make sure that you have Exchange Server 2003 SP2 installed... hth Marcin Show quoteHide quote "Luiz" <L***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:57D12AB7-DC93-4E60-9683-47085944ACA0@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I have a question about Upgrade AD In-Place mode: > - I have a DC/AD Windows Server 2003 and my environment has a Exchange > Server 2003. > I want upgrade my environment to Windows Server 2008 and AD too > But I don´t have another hardware to configure the new DC 2008 so I would > like to know if I can do a in-place upgrade of my AD 2003 to AD 2008. > > Thanks for while. > > Luiz Howdie!

Just for failover and load issues. It is much easier to recover from a failure with two DCs than having to fix a one-DC-domain. Users will be able to auth once one of the DCs is down. If your only DC is broken, people won't be able to access any resources (mail, file, intranet web) Cheers, Florian -- Microsoft MVP - Group Policy eMail: prename [at] frickelsoft [dot] net. blog: http://www.frickelsoft.net/blog. Yes, it is supported to do inplace upgrade. But as already mentioned, you should think about a second DC before going on. So in case something fails your AD is still working. Maybe check your server before: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/ Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm Show quoteHide quote > Hi, > > I have a question about Upgrade AD In-Place mode: > - I have a DC/AD Windows Server 2003 and my environment has a > Exchange > Server 2003. > I want upgrade my environment to Windows Server 2008 and AD too > But I don´t have another hardware to configure the new DC 2008 so I > would > like to know if I can do a in-place upgrade of my AD 2003 to AD 2008. > Thanks for while. > > Luiz >
