How do I connect a new AD account to a new email addressI have an exchange public folder where the email address was created before
the user account. I need to connect the user account to this email address. Is this possible or do I need to delete everything and start from scratch? This is the error I receive when trying to send a test mail from the outside deinal-Recipient: rfc822;apinvoi***@mottcorp.com Action: failed Status: 5.2.1 X-Display-Name: APInvoices When I look up the error, it says that it cannot find the SID. Consequently, I created an account, but I am unable to match it to the mailbox. Any help would be much appreciated. Linda <Li***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

Any help would be much appreciated. microsoft.public.exchange.admin. I'm setting up my reply to xpost there for your convenience but make sure to post in the most relevant groups next time. That said, I'm confused. A public folder has no associated user account. Nor does it have a mailbox, even if it is mail-enabled. You haven't provided your version or SP level of Exchange (which is critical!) but assuming E2003, you can check the mail-enabled status of the folder in Exchange System Manager by drilling down trhough the folders til you find it, then right-click. You can establish an email address for a public folder if it doesn't have one already. If this doesn't answer your question please post back with full details of your setup and what you're trying to do.

I haven't seen this error in quite some time. >I have an exchange public folder where the email address was created before > the user account. Any help would be much appreciated. > So I am not sure what you mean by your first two sentences. Knowing that all email addresses are unique in a forest/Exchange organization, were you trying to create a user account giving it the same email address whether as the primary email address or additional email address for the user, that you've previously provided for a public folder? If so, it should have given you an error saying the email address already exists. You can remove the email address off the public folder. Have you tried that? You can try removing the email address from the public folder, wait for AD replication to occur, then re-create it, or simply do not give it an email address, and set the email address on the new user account? Also... Is the public folder part of a Distribution Group? What is the attachment size limit set to in your ogranization? Is there an attachment on the message? If so, how large is the attachment? Does the public folder (assuming that;s where you want this to go), have permissions to receive email from outside of the organization/ What version of Exchange? Are all the same, or mixed 2000, 2003 and/or 2007? Do you have multiple domains in your forest? How many Exchange servers in the organization? Do all Exchange servers have the lastest service packs, rollups and Exchange updates? Take a look at the following article regarding this issue. You receive a "5.2.1" non-delivery report when you send an e-mail message to a public folder on Exchange Server 2003 or on Exchange 2000 Server [...] Fixes a problem where you receive a 5.2.1 NDR when you send an e-mail message to [...] STATUS.
