Can't Install AD on 2003 R2 Server

All,

I have a new Server I need to install AD on but cannot, because, all of the
previous Servers are pre- R2 so the version of ADPREP does not match. The
other part of the issue is that the older servers are 2003 Enterprise and the
new server is standard because it is going in a smaller remote office. Is
there a way to download ADPREP.EXE for R2 Enterprise edition so I can upgrate
my Schema Master? Will the ADPREP.EXE for Standard edition work? I read on
KB917385 that I need the Enterprise Edition Disk 2.

Please advise,

Thanks,
Chazg

The adprep is the same for standard and enterprise. It is a Schema update to support the R2 feature set. Adprep is on the R2 CD #2. Simply copy and run it on your Schema Master. Once replication has propagated, promote your new machine to a DC.

Please read Jorge's blog for more information, guidelines, paying attention to Forest and Domain Funtional levels, nuances, etc.

No. Run adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep once on the Schema Master, and allow replication to all DCs BEFORE promoting the new DC.

Hello ChazG,

Run adprep from the second R2 disk on the schema master with an account of
the schema admins to upgrade the schema to version 31. Run "schupgr" to see
the current schema version, 2003 should be version 30.

Best regards
