2008 DC wbadminHello all
I have enabled systemstate backups of my DC by using the wbadmin tool "wbadmin enable backup -addtarget:{00000081-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} -allcritical -schedule:06:00" from looking at the event logs for these backups the job runs fine without errors. Now i need to restore an AD object, and when i reboot the DC into DSRM mode and run "Wbadmin start systemstaterecovery -version #" i get the below error message "system writer is not found in the backup" and it wont let me do a restore. how can i fix this and what could be the cause? Thanks Hello Sawyer,
If i am not wrong the backup you have is not usable for restoring a single AD object. You have taken a backup of a complete volume instead of the system state and you can not extract the system state from it. To have a system state backup this is what you have use: http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/cc742035(WS.10).aspx "-allCritical" is just a specification to make sure the volume can be backed up which CONTAINS the system state Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm Show quoteHide quote > Hello all > > I have enabled systemstate backups of my DC by using the wbadmin tool > "wbadmin enable backup > -addtarget:{00000081-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} -allcritical > -schedule:06:00" > > from looking at the event logs for these backups the job runs fine > without errors. would get the error message i posted as soon as i tried to do a restore of the systemstate, so at this point i wasnt doing an athoritative restore, just trying to do a system state restore. If im understanding you correctly the -allcritical switch doesnt backup the systemstate, or it does but i cant do a restore of the systemstate with this type of backup? You have taken a full volume backup, that's all. Even if the system state is in that volume, i think you are not able to extract it, so basically you DON'T have a system state backup.
