We are facing a problem in a Domain Controller that the File Replication
service and KDC service is not getting started and it is giving error " Could
not start File Replication Service"
Due to this we are not able to demote DC, Force demote DC. The last option
is to format the server.

Kindly suggest how to troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks and Regards,

Hello Sukhwinder,

Any errors in the event viewer? Did you restore the server before or did
something happen, new installation from software, drivers or updates?

Best regards

Dear Meinolf,

We are not getting any specific error in the event viewer File Replication
logs. Its only having 13501 " Ntfrs service is starting". We have some 1925
errors in the Directory service logs but those are because the replication is
not happening.

This is strange that we are not getting any error which can help us
troubleshoot.

Thanks
Sukhwinder

Why not start off resolving the general AD replication issues? Have you
tried running frsdiag to get any further info on it?

Cheers,
Florian

Hello Sukhwinder,

I fully agree with Florian, if you have replication errors solve them. Start
with dcdiag /v /c on the DCs and repadmin /showrepl. Also run netdiag /v.

Best regards

Hi Sukhwinder

It's necessary more info. You have to run the commands mentioned before from
the people like:

repadmin /showrepl * (you have to see the last info in each line to know the
status of replication)
dcdiag /test:replications
repadmin /bind per each domain controller

was there any change or modification before the failure?
after this commands you should force replications by GUI through Active
Directory site and services in order to see in the event viewer more events.
