redirected start menu not workinghello,
i have a issue, we have 2 XP labs here at the site where i work, and we also have 300+ 2k machines, well i have redirected start menu for both, i am running loop back processong on the labs for the redirecting of the start menu. Here the issue, certain students login and the redirected SM is crossing over OU policy, my question is any body have good tips on where to start trouble shooting? -- samotech ------------------------------------------------------------------------ samotech's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/81311.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/active-directory/1147815.htmhttp://forums.techarena.in Hi can you be a little more specific on the problem its not quite clear. Are
some users receiving the start menu and others not? Can you provide a bit more info on the OU/GPO organisation. Office XP, one is running office 2003 and one is running 2007, ( i know
, i know, headache ), so i have a GPO at the OU level of students
pushing out security policies-user policy- this works fine. we have a 3
OU with "lab computers a b c " that has the redirected start menu, and
they are running loop back so i can have it merge the user and the
computer policy. this works most of the time but with some students,
when they log in to lab "a", they get the correct redirected menu, but
they log off and log into lab "b", the redirected menu of lab "a"
follows them into lab "b", so the icons are incorrect and they have no
access to the microsoft 0ffice program , ??? did i set it up wrong ?
is their a better option of having 3 separate SM tht are redirected,?
Facts. i wont be able to just have one office program, OU structure STUdents-user policy here -2009-sub ou's -2008 -2007 labs( same level as students OU) -lab a-redirect /loop bac -lab b -redirect/ loop bac -lab c - redirect /loop bac thanx for any pointers -- samotech ------------------------------------------------------------------------ samotech's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/81311.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/active-directory/1147815.htmhttp://forums.techarena.in Samotech.
I think you have a logical problem. Folder redirection works by actually setting the location of a Special Folder to a different place. So user X has their Start Menu in \\server\folder\userx\start instead of the normal place. You can see this in the registry. When a user logs onto a computer with a loopback policy, the computer policy processing says "ignore the user's specific policies and apply these instead". So if you redirect it somewhere else then it is going to be moved from \\server\folder\userx\start to another place. And then back when the user logs on to another computer without the loopback. Perhaps what you mean is that you want a different Start menu on different computers. That's probably a mandatory profile rather than Redirection. AD Container
Domain functional level changing domain name Is this the last step we need to do? Do Child DC's need unrestricted IP access to Root DC's? DNS during Domain Controller demotion DC's not Replicating Delegate ad workstations to domain Demotion doesn't properly remove server from DNS Best way to give local admin rights only across the domain |
