Samba to ADHi,
My company uses Windows XP Pro but the servers are Linux. I want to migrate to Windows Server 2008 to better manage the domain. The domaing manager is Samba and I want to know if there is how bring the users from Samba to AD without havig the to anything in the workstations, just in the server? Also, we use a Linux based DNS Server, Proxy Server, Internet Security Server. And I want to use just Windows Server 2008. How to migrate? Thanks, Rafael Malheiros In news:uGjaUDJrJHA.3864@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl, Rafael Malheiros <raf***@agafarma.com.br>, posted the following:Show quoteHide quote > Hi, To properly gain full centralized control of all machines in a domain, > > My company uses Windows XP Pro but the servers are Linux. Samba is just an SMB (Microsoft) to NFS (*nix) translator, hence the name SAMBA. It makes a *nix machine "look like" a Windows machine. You can use ADMT for the migration. ADMT will also automatically join the machines to the domain, provide permissions for the new domain user to use the old user's desktop profile (so they still have their desktop), and many other features. Take a look at this migration guideline using ADMT: http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id2605434 Download details: Active Directory Migration Tool v3.0Nov 20, 2008 http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6f86937b-533a-466d-a8e8-aff85ad3d212&displaylang=en -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
