How to add an offline printer object in Active DirectoryHi there,
I would like to know whether is there any way to add an offline printer object in Active Directory? The solutions from Microsoft website requires all printers to be active before it can be publish in Active Directory. My scenario is, there are 10 printers (reaching the office in 2 weeks time). Rather than waiting for 2 weeks, i would prefer to add in the printer objects before hand and once the printers are plug into network all users should be able to use the printer immediately. Anyone can advice? Thank you. Hello Kent,
Choose the print server and install the printer as local printer without connecting it. There will be a prompt for TCP/IP port information, choose "Generic Network card" or if you know the model, choose the correct one, then ignore the warnings and click finish. Now you are prompted for the printer drivers, choose the one you need and and follow the wizard for the device name etc. Now if share it correct it will be available also in AD. Hi Meinolf,
Thanks for the explanation. The solution below works if a print queue is created on a server. How about a direct printer when no print queue will be created in server? Example: a laserjet printer with a network port and users will be printing directly from this printer rather than using the print queue on server. Can this be done? Thank you.
