Logon Problem on One ClientUsing 1 SBS 2003 (DHCP Svr & DNS Server), 1 Server Std 2003, 5 XP Clients
SP2, 1 2000 Pro Client Problem is with one XP client that won't logon if DNS address is set to the SBS address like the other clients. It can logon if DNS addresses are set to the ISP DNS addr, which are same as fowarders on the SBS, but then it won't load the Group Policy. If machine is left idle for a while, opening files on the SBS becomes slow, have to log off/on, sometimes multi times to get it to work. Other clients are set to obtain IP/DNS auto, this one client obtains IP auto, and will obtain the same DNS (the SBS address) auto as the others, but won't work. DNS must be the ISP's (or at least not the SBS) to logon. Also, the clock on this XP client is not sync with the SBS like the other clients. Any ideas? I can get more info if needed, machine is presently being used. What exactly is the error that you get when trying to logon when pointing to
the SBS box for DNS? First of all sync up the clock manually on the XP box so that it is within a minute of the clock on the SBS box, ensuring that they are also configured for the same time zone. If the clocks are out of sync by more then 5 minutes it will not let you log on. The only reason you are able to logon when you point to the ISP for DNS is because you are unable to find a domain controller because there is no SRV records for your DC on your ISPs DNS server, and since it cannot locate a DC it is logging you on with cached credentials. Another potential problem could be that the secure channel between the machine and the DC has broken. If syncing up the clocks does not work try disjoining and rejoining the XP box to the domain. -- Show quoteHide quoteBrian Delaney, MCSE "keith_tx" wrote: > Using 1 SBS 2003 (DHCP Svr & DNS Server), 1 Server Std 2003, 5 XP Clients > SP2, 1 2000 Pro Client > > Problem is with one XP client that won't logon if DNS address is set to the > SBS address like the other clients. The error is "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case." Of course the username and domain are correct. I sync the clock and tried disjoining and rejoining the comp to the domain, still have same problem.
