Scanner on parallel port, PermissionsHi,
I have a Windows server 2003 Active directory domain. On one of the machines (workstation) I have a scanner (Umax astra 2000P) connected with parallel port, but only administrators can scan documents. Other users can not find the scanner (using a program which test the scaner). I want all users can use it. Any ideas? Thanks. I've seen this problem. Basically, the scanner software is dreadful crap.
Ideally you will update. There's a couple of options: Using REGMON and FILEMON (from www.sysinternals) you track what permissions are needed on what folders and registry keys and grant that access to a group. You can also make all the users administrators on this ONE PC. However this is an insecure way of doing it, and I shouldn't really be recommending this to you. I only mention it as this is what most people seem to end up doing anyway! Ideally, you will update the scanning software and/ or the scanner itself. -- Paul Williams Microsoft MVP - Windows Server - Directory Services http://www.msresource.net | http://forums.msresource.net |
